Critical Thinking…

“Critical thinking” is a familiar term to students all around the word. In my country, it, to the surprise of many, is a brand new term in education field. Many people think it can do good for the students and should be encouraged while others say it should never be. To my mind, thinking critically is an essential skill for us, as students and as people.

First of all, critical thought is the cornerstone of education. Without critical thinking, classes would be dull and ineffective as students only silently accept everything teachers say, even if they don’t understand. After these classes, there are many words in their notebook but nothing remain in their mind. In contrary, if teachers allow critical thought, which means there are discussions, debates on academic subjects, students will be more energetic and vigorous to absorb knowledge. Since they are able to clear their doubt and prove theories by investigating their lessons inside out, the knowledge they got really theirs. They understand and can practice what they have study into their life, so they can remember it forever.

Moreover, critical thinker are develop motivator. As critical thinking inspire us with questions, second thoughts and desire of real truth, we don’t sit still but be compelled to walk continually on the path of discovering about ourselves, the people and the whole world. Thank to it, we now know that what we made of are tiny cells,that where we live in is not a flatten Earth, that the universe is more than sun and moon and so on…

Last but not least, thinking critically is also an important skill for life. Life isn’t a bed of rose, we have to face many challenges and hardships on the way. That is critical thinking that help us to understand the nature of problems, and then be able to find the best solutions. However, gaining a skill is not as easy as pie. We have to practice day in day out in order to strengthen our spirit  and sharpen our mind to think critically well. Hence, the school have to encourage students and give them chances think critically as the preparer for their future.

On the whole, critical thinking can do wonders to  students. It is the incubator of geniuses and successors. Therefore, discouraging it is do harm to our own education system. We would better encourage it as much as we can.

Boys or Girls…

“Who do you think can be your close friends, boys or girls?” asked my friend. It took me a while to answer that question. I have many friends but yet to think about links between friendship and gender…

Let’s begin with friends in the same gender. First, they have lots of things to talk to each other as they have many things in common. For instance, girls can spend the whole day talking and gossiping about fashion, films, hot boys and so on while boys can vigorously discuss about sport and macroscopic issues. However, since we have same-sex, it’s more easily to be green with envy with each other. Jealousy is really dangerous, it may turn your lovely friends in to vicious snakes who can bite you for nonsensical causes such as more guys like you or you have better score than them. Therefore, friendship can be broken.

Then, lest investigate opposite-sex friends. Since they aren’t same-gender, there values are different. Hence, they are not often become rivals. Boys can’t feel annoyed when a girl looks more gorgeous then he as well as girls rarely envy with a intelligent boy in class. However, that’s also the weak point of their friendship. Lacking similar interests means have difficult in communicating and understanding each other. For example, a boy can’t expect girls to be energetic about football or a girl can’t make boys cry with them after watching a sad love drama. Furthermore, the attraction between opposite-gender may cause some romantic feelings between them. When love arise, friendship will disappear.

On the whole, both friendships with boys and with girls have advantages and disadvantages. Thus, my answer is “There is no need to consider about gender of my friends. I just care about their hearts. As long as their heart open to me and accept me as myself, they are my friends.”

The Importance of Examinations

Thinking about school, no one could fail to see the image of examinations. To many students, exams are the frightening devastator of school joy. However, they’re also very important and interesting.

First of all, examinations are student’s motivation to learn more. They compel us to solidify what we have learned, study further and practice skills. Thank to them, we have to revise old lessons till obtain all important issues. Thank to them, we have to investigate all possible questions and unconsciously absorb new knowledge. Thank to them, we have to sharpen our logical and critical thinking,  which is essential skills in life. After all, if there was no test, then we would naturally rather play than study.

In addition, examinations, of course, help to examine students. They show students’ knowledge, abilities, and even characters.  After knowing their pupils’ exam results, teachers can have a better understanding about their students and, therefore, be able to find a more suitable teaching method. The students can also base on exam scores to make learning strategies. For instance, if you are bad at literature, you need to spend more time reading book and writing; or if you are a dab hand at math, you can practice more to pick up a job about mathematics in the future.

Last but not least, school life are seasoned with exams. Imagine how our days would change if there was no exam. What a relief, right? Whereas, we wouldn’t be able to taste the bitter of failing an exam. It also means no salty sweat of studying hard and no sweet tear of successful passing.  And then, you couldn’t prove your abilities to others, too. Without exams, it would be dull as there was no challenge nor hardship.

In conclusion, school isn’t really school without examinations. Hence, let’s quit complaining about hard exams. They will be as easy as pie if we try our best.

University…

For a long time, going to university has been believed to be the only way to bright future. Is that conception still true now? Or has it been out of date as many graduated students also have difficulties in finding a job? To my mind, though the university can’t guarantee for your future, it’s still worth entering.

First of all, universities provide deep knowledge on wide-range fields. When students have enrolled, there is no need to  study lots of subjects like in middle school. They just have to set our heart on one,  and investigate it inside out. Various projects, researches, assignments and practical scenarios are conducted in universities from where students get exposure and experience to various problems which they might have to deal with in their real life.  To help them absorb knowledge, universities also supply excellent teachers and large libraries. Having a tough question, they can surely get detailed answers from professors. Lacking ideas, they can find numberless interesting materials in the library. If they study seriously, they can gain huge amount of knowledge from university for sure.

Moreover, university life give students valuable experiences and social skills. Various recreational activities such as  Sports meet, youth festivals, Conferences, Seminars, Debates, Declamation contests etc which are held in universities help them in getting new experiences. What’s more? Universities, where they can meet many  people with the same interest as themselves, are also good places to find life-long friends, comrades and even lovers.  However, unlike middle school, no one will watch over them and blame them if they don’t study. Therefore, a strong self-discipline is requisite, or else they won’t be able to graduate.

On the whole, university education can’t give us good employment, but it does train quite enough knowledge, experience and skill to face challenges of life. So, let’s keep trying to enroll the university!

Thousands of pupils in my country have just taken the University Entrance Exam. This post is for them. Hope they all do well…

Weapon…

Since human first appeared on earth, we have been using weapon. Weapons, from a wooden spear to destructive nuclear booms, have never fail to be our destroyer in wars. However, is it only made to destroy?

In fact, we all have different personalities and ideas. So, we often have to discuss to pick up the best. Whereas, since no one like to accept that theirs are not as good as others’, sometimes discussions fail and contentions arise. These inharmoniousnesses may agglomerate and contribute to contradictions which can result in fights, and even wars. Then, if people really choose war as the solution for their conflicts, they are no longer try to prove their righteousness but try to be more powerful, as the stronger will be the winner. In that situation, weapons are the key factor. They are developed to be more and more destructive, more and more killing. The more they can devastate, the more they can kill, the better. As has been noted,  the weapon is really made to expand war, isn’t it?

Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, the weapon is the protector of peace. It is not made to destroy but to conserve, not to kill but to protect. In prehistoric days, human used wooden spears and stone blades to defend against wild animals.  In middle ages, we  continued to use swords to combat for the sake of our beloved ones. Nowadays, the most devastating weapon, the nuclear bomb, also help us in conservation world’s peace. Imagine if there was no nuclear bomb, would the World War II end or would it continue till today? Furthermore, knowing that they may all die  if a nuclear war broke up, strong nations won’t recklessly start fighting. For the same reason, developed countries have to come to the negotiate table when there are conflicts. Therefore, there will be no war.

On the whole, the weapon itself isn’t bad at all. Thank to it, we now can enjoy this peaceful world.

Smile…

Walking along busy streets, passing by houses and shops, we can see numberless people, but how many smile can we see? One, two or three… :-B

“Why don’t we smile to strangers?” :-/ I asked one of my friends. “There is no merit in doing such nonsense.”, he answered. He’s not the only one who has that conception. Many people would say the same thing, too. As life is harsh, people are too busy to look gently into others’ eyes, too tired to curve up the corners of our mouth and let the lips moving apart so that the teeth can be seen. Besides, you may also be considered “abnormal” if you smile to all strangers.

However, these reasons are not enough to withdraw your generosity in giving smile. First of all, it can do wonder to you yourself. B-) A little smile can make you feel somehow relaxed. Then, for at least a moment, your heart can be released from daily burdens. Moreover, smile is the cheapest, yet the best embellishment to put on your face. Everybody is cuter when he smiles. Maybe someone could fall in love with your smile. )

Not only affecting on your lives, smile can also have impacts on others’. It blows a gentle wind into people’s hearts and warm them up. >:D< A poor beggar may see little sympathy in your smile. A failing student may feel some encouragement in your smile. A hopeless suicide may find some life-spring in your smile. Your smile may change other people’s life, or even the whole word, who knows? Just showing others how beautiful the world is by your smiling face, you yourself can do miracle. O:-)

On the whole, we are lucky to be given the ability to smile. Why are we so stingy that not give it to each other, even if we are strangers? Let’s smile to liven up all gray and bleak days!
